Miniature Herefords

How did we start raising Mini Hereford cattle?

We obtained our very first Miniature Hereford heifer in the spring of 2013.  At the time, we were in search of a new Shorthorn heifer to add to our show-string.  We were not, however, considering the Hereford breed - let alone a "mini."  After stumbling upon several Miniature Herefords for sale, we became curious about the breed and we managed to get in touch with a reputable breeder in California.  Shortly thereafter, "Royal Juliet" joined our herd.  We quickly fell in love with the Miniature Hereford breed and have thoroughly enjoyed raising them over the past several years.

Why Miniature Herefords?

We've all heard the saying, "Good things come in small packages," and the Mini Hereford is no exception to this statement.  Miniature Hereford cattle are full-blooded Herefords, as they are direct descendants of the original Hereford breed.  Miniatures have simply been bred down in size over the years, through methodical breeding practices.  Miniature Herefords are registered through the American Hereford Association.  Although there is no official indication of their miniature status on AHA registration papers, Mini Herefords are easily identified by their short-stature size.  At maturity, females may be not more than 46 inches tall at the hip; bulls may not be taller than 48 inches at the hip.  Despite being only 30-50 percent of the size of traditional Herefords, the conformation of Miniature Herefords should be comparable to that of traditional Hereford cattle.

What are Miniature Herefords used for?

Due to their small size and docility, Miniature Herefords are an incredibly versatile breed of cattle.  While most of our Minis we have gone on to have show careers, many of our customers simply use them as pasture pets, while others They are often purchased as "starter calves" for young 4H showmen, but make wonderful show animals for children of all ages.  Hobby farmers love Miniature Herefords, as they are easy to work with, low-maintenance, and great weed-eaters.
